COSCO Shipping has launched a new direct shipping route connecting Qingdao Port in Shandong province to several major ports in Southeast Africa, including Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, and Durban. Operated by the newly delivered Green Nagoya cargo ship, this route aims to enhance trade ties between China and Africa while improving shipping efficiency. With departures scheduled weekly, the journey time has been reduced to just 20 days, increasing efficiency by 30%.

The Green Nagoya is equipped with advanced technology, allowing it to lower fuel consumption by 40%, saving 380.4 metric tons of carbon emissions per 10,000 tons of cargo transported over the 5,000-nautical-mile route. Additionally, Qingdao Port’s strategic location, with robust highway and railway connectivity, provides clients with reduced transportation costs and streamlined logistics.

This new shipping line, launched in response to the growing trade demands under the Belt and Road Initiative, will handle up to 1.5 million cubic meters of exports annually. It also consolidates Qingdao Port’s position as the hub for COSCO Shipping’s general cargo services in northern China.
